Move to Heath Care and Away from Sick Care
We need more education on how to keep people healthy vs. just treating them when they are sick. In our schools, we desperately need better education on how to prevent disease and also teach kids healing is possible through diet and other holistic ways. Functional medicine is growing but not fast enough. This kind of practice gets to the root of why a person gets “sick” in the first place and then helps the patient towards wellness involving natural remedies.
Most doctors get an education on medications but they don’t get an education on how food heals. Why is this? Well, it’s not just a theory. It’s a fact that pharmaceutical companies (big pharma – I call them for short) have a large influence over medical facilities. They support the doctors and the doctors prescribe their drugs. Some doctors have received kick backs from prescribing certain drugs.
When I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, I was in the dark. I always thought that the doctor new best. When I first diagnosed with MS I had a blind spot in my left eye. The neurologist prescribed a steroid medication that put me on a drip system for 3-4 days in a row. This doctor told me this steroid was prescribed to shrink the inflammation behind my eye. The thought (in the medical world) was that it would shrink the inflammation in the nerve behind my eye to create normal vision again.
This plan surely didn’t work. Not only was this plan unfavorable in healing my eye, but it caused my MS symptoms to flair up and initiated a multitude of other symptoms. A migraine headache landed me in bed for a month. Severe fatigue and brain fog set in after this as well as numbness in my legs. Another strange symptom caused me to have stiff joints. When I think about how I just followed that doctor’s orders, it frustrates me! I could have saved my self a lot of pain and money from that steroid if would have known the truth early on. The truth later was that food, a few changes in my mind-set, and other holistic lifestyle changes healed me—NOT DRUGS.
When I was diagnosed with MS in 2015 the average cost of an MS drug back then was about $55,000 per year (I thought that was insane). An now in 2023 the average cost is over $90,000. You wonder why our average cost insurance is so high? These pharmaceutical companies are raising the drugs costs so high and forcing the insurance companies to pay for drugs that don’t cure the illness. I’ve never heard of a drug that cured a chronic disease—it just doesn’t happen. But changes in diet and lifestyle can!
Commercials on TV about drugs is dominating. Have you noticed? These drug companies are raking in so much money that the money goes back into these commercials showing these happy actors living a happy life with a condition or a disease. I have never seen so many types of new drugs out there. At the end of the commercials they always say, “Ask your doctor how (insert drug name here) can benefit you.”
I remember being so relieved that I could cure my illness with food and lifestyle instead of expensive drugs! This was a total moment of bliss for me—an eureka moment! This information is what we need to preach. We can help each other heal from chronic diseases holistically and save people from going into debt paying for drugs that won’t cure. Drugs may help symptoms but many times they bring on side effects. DIET AND LIFESTYLE CHANGES IS THE CURE. I love spreading this truth.
